Final Show night

Well I can not believe it is over!!! Last night (Saturday) was the final night for the Ekka Show. It was a successful run of 10 straight days starting at 8:30 am with makeup and ending with usually 10:00pm in the evening. By any standard,. this is a very demanding and brutal length of time for scaring people. What is really different is here in AUS folks were willing to see the show morning , noon, and night without any hesitation. In the US for the most part it seems that the patrons really only want to come out late in the evenings. Anyway back to the Ekka Show, I was very proud to say that the entire cast of Asians, Italians, German, British, Spanish, one Australian, and two Americans really made a huge hit at its premier showing. I feel that even though the travel hours (32 in flights each way) and the really long hours (average work day of 16 to 18) was well worth all the stress and challenges. Hollywood Horrors was a great success with all the patrons. During the show we faced gusting high winds of over 55 miles an hour, a major rain storm which was a record in the history books for this area and caused major flooding especially at the Show location, staffing a event with a multi international cast, and finally setting up a Scarefactory 2,600 square foot event for the first time really presented some huge challenges. So needless to say, I feel really good that my Hauntertainer training program and my 20 plus years of commercial professional haunting experience really added to the resources of Jay Jones one of the owners and operators of this event.

Where has the time gone! I am truly sorry for all those days I have not kept up with the blogging however we ...all the staff have been doing many long days and nights trying to build one of AUS. premier haunted house programs. There is a major difference between the USA and AUS events as this is a festival (fair) style where your day begins at 9:00 am in the morning and runs till 10:30 pm. So that means 30 minutes before opening and 30 minutes after closing is also needed to be ready for the festival goers who are truly having a great time seeing this attraction. Do the math - an average day including rebuilding walls, repairing the sets, acting, and meeting TV/radio/ media event staff makes it average 15 to 18 hour days for a straight run of 10 days in a row. I am very proud of the 12 international acting staff who have come together to make "Hollywood Horror" event a success. I will elaborate more on the staff in the next blog. It is also nice that one of my key staff - Jerry Chaffee aka "Nemisis" was able to come and be a part of this training activity as well so as to have my back at the front door of the operations. Jerry by the way is staying in AUS till September 28 and then returns home to Fremont, Ohio to be in time for my beloved Haunted Hydro Park opening 3 days later!!!! AUS currently has several haunted "ghost rides" but no walk through events. Jay Jones and his business partner "Jamie" saw this as a golden opportunity to start a new event at the fairs and festivals that they already have other business activities at. Thus "Hollywood Horror" was born and Turner Enterprise Inc was hired via the "Hauntertainer University" to train all the actors to make this an international success. We have had many interesting challenges so far and in my next blog I will give you more info on those items.

NO INTERNET ACCESS... which SUCKS!

Greetings ALL!
Unfortunately... where Bob and Jerry are in Australia there is no Internet Access or Wi Fi at ALL... they are in the TRUE OUTBACK, I guess...!

I have spoken to him on the phone a few times and things are going well... and he is taking tons of pictures and video footage. Crowds have been GREAT and the response is amazingly POSITIVE!

Bob promises as soon as he can get web access he will post some things on this BLOG site.

Sunday, they will be packing up the unit and moving it to the next Fair event.

He sounds good... tired, and messed up totally with TIME... but good. Jerry and Bob are working like PRAIRIE DOGS though... they work the enitire time the Fair is open... 11am - 11pm... with a few breaks here and there... but, basically ALL DAY and NIGHT as their characters... can you say BRUTAL!!!!! But, I know my husband and he is giving it ALL he has to make this operation a success for the owners... that is just the kind of GHOUL he is!!!

Keep the two of them in your thoughts and let's hope they get to a place with internet access soon...!

Day 1 & 2 (Officially)

After loosing a whole 2 days basically in flight with with time changes and all... Bob and Jerry finally were able to start their activities with HOLLYWOOD HORRORS... I spoke to Bob today and he wanted me to report the following to you... he hopes tomorrow to have WiFi capabilities and be able to start BLOGGING himself very soon... but for now here is his report:

* Mega TV and RADIO Media coverage on the opening of this event... Channel 9, 7 and 10 are the big network stations down there and they all are covering it... it is making a HUGE splash!

* Australian response from patrons was strong and positive... the guests are completely enjoying this NEW and SCARY experience... extremely fun and different for them!

* 1st day attendance was great and the staff met the normal start-up challenges with professional ease and efficiency.

* The NEW actor/training HAUNTERTAINER UNIVERSITY session CRAZY BOB did to train the staff was well attended and helped prepare them for what to do and to expect. Bob is planning on continuing with some educational classes during his stay.

* Nemesis blew fire to mega crowds of amazed patrons - He was a huge hit!

1st Call from CRAZY BOB from the land DOWN UNDER!

WOW... it was GREAT to hear Bob's voice... just got off the phone with him... Jay let him use his phone to call me and let me know all is well... it was 11:30pm there time and it is 9:30am our time... so CRAZY... any way... They drove to the site where the Hollywood Horrors attraction was set up and looked over it a little and Jay had a TV interview when he got back from picking up Bob and Jerry and I guess Bob and Jerry pulled a YING and YANG and literally SCARED the girl reporter to her knees while they were filming and they were not even in makeup and costuming yet...and so it BEGINS....! They were planning on going to bed and hitting it early tomorrow morning with a full day of actor training and then the show actually debuts the next day on Thursday. There WHIRLWIND adventure has finally BEGUN!!!! Bob did take some pictures already and hopes to get to a computer in the next couple days and will begin posting then.

Also... good news was received from TOURIST ATTRACTIONS AND PARKS Magazine (TAP)... They just confirmed they will be featuring an article and pictures on Bob's adventure Down Under and the new HOLLYWOOD HORROR attraction in their Nov-2010 Issue. FRIGHT TIMES Magazine is also going to feature a Haunt Industry EXCLUSIVE article.

I received an email late last night from Jay Jone's partner Jane that Bob and Jerry did make land DOWN UNDER yesterday.... Although somehow their flight was late getting into Sydney and they missed their scheduled connecting flight to Brisbane... but luckily were able to catch the next one about a half and hour later... Flying is always an ADVENTURE all of it's own sometimes!!!! I hope to hear from Bob later today... Sorry... I am a little out of order here... but this is was July 30...Friday... just got the pics...!

Neena and Kelly Collins from Midwest Haunters Convention and the SCARE-A-TORIUM Haunted House in Columbus surprized us Friday, July 30 and stopped by for an exceptionally fun trip to Put-In-Bay on the Miller Ferry Boat... Both Neena and Kelly re-lived some old memories of thier last visit to the Island... Kelly remembers Lake Erie from his Coast Guard days and Neena told us a story about an old boyfriend and a state park camp-out and her hauling ALL the equipment, coolers and bikes over on the Ferry by herself... she dumped him shortly after-that... go figure... he/he!

We rented a golf cart and buzzed around the Island on Island time... which means ANY time you want... stopping and doing whatever we wanted... whenever we wanted... it was GREAT... we toured Heineman's Winery and the Crystal cave... ate a nice lunch on a Veranda, ate chocolate, drank wine, beers, Bloody Mary's whiskey's and more... OH MY... I am so glad they were able to join us before Bob took off... I think we both needed a little diversion in our lives before the CRAZY Halloween season arrives...!

Beth LOVIN' on Crazy Bob at a beautiful outlook point on the Island... Neena thought it was romantic...! Left the Island on the 8:30pm ferry... came back to Fremont... went to Krogers and bought wine, spirits, cheese, crackers, grapes and more... and went out on the TEI Floating Pub patio and sat around the fire... and ate, drank some more and then jumped in the Hot Tub for a relaxing end to our busy day... woke up the next morning and took our two guests to Whitey's Diner for the Best Breakfast in Town... Thanks Neena and Kelly for the GREAT All-American send-off... Hey... Pirate weekend at the Bay... next year... 4th weekend in June... a couple weeks after MHC... I think it is a DATE.... let's see how many Haunter's want to be PIRATES that weekend... we could OWN that ISLAND!!!!! ARRRRGHHHHH Matey!

Getting the THUMBS-UP... first part is set... they have their boarding passes... next stop... SECURITY... Will they let Crazy Bob and Jerry pass thru... Jerry has quite a few piercings.... HMMMMMM!

Delta flight 1819 to Los Angeles shows departing ON TIME.... I gave Bob one last hug and told Jerry to take care of him... and watched as they went thru security... both made it... although Jerry had to remove a few more items before passing safely thru the metal detector... he/he... I actually got tears in my eyes watching them both leave... I don't know if it was because I was just jealous I could not go with them or worried about them traveling so very far away... I believe it was probably a combination of both... They fly from DTW to LAX and then from LAX to Sydney, Australia... and then on to Brisbane... their final destination... they actually arrive on August 3... because of the 30 hour flight and all the unbelievable time changes!!!! Neither Bob nor Jerry took their cell phones... which is going to be totally weird... the cost of taking an international phone and the rates they charge was way out of line... both are planning on using the internet and communicating via email and SKYPE to family and friends... Jay Jones, the business owner they will be working with in Australia will email me to let me know they made it safe and sound... I will post something on here as soon as I here... after that... I will let Crazy Bob and Jerry take the BLOGGER reigns.... and tell you what is going on a half an earth away in Australia....!

Greetings One and All,
I do not know where all the time is going and there is so much to do. I am reviewing the special characters for the Hollywood Horrors program. Basically reviewing the movies and looking at movements, costuming and key words by each. It will be interesting to see how it sounds in the Aus accent.... We are taping some of this so everyone will get a chance to see this interesting international haunted activity as it progresses. I was going to send some spare costuming down in advance but the shipping cost is outrageous both by UPS (which was higher $700) and the USPS $300. It boils down to where it will be more cost effective to take a second large piece of luggage and give it away rather than bring it back home! Ahhh the little things we must learn to make small business happen and be successful. I am really getting excited about the whole project and I know Jerry is going crazy with his plans for acting and teaching fire eating to the Aus group as well.
Just a small note for all as my AT and T bill arrived for last month and it was definitely more than usual. Calls to Aus cost $4.00 a minute average...Ouch!!! I have now purchased Skype and going to be using that method for all future contacts with my activities in the US while I am in Aus and of course to talk to my wife and Jerry can talk to his family and daughter as well. Skype is a Internet communication for chat and pictures. Very inexpensive online or at Walmart and easy setup. Check it out for family and business needs. By the way my daughter KT (who is 21 and currently interning for PARC Management in Fla) was using it before me... so check it out folks.

Greetings to one and all,
We are only days away from jumping into a great big jet and flying 32 hours to AUS. Passports are in hand for both myself and Jerry Chaffee commonly known as "Nemesis". We are awaiting flight confirmation in the next two days along with the newest baggage regulations and weights - my how things change quickly with the airline company's. Already we are carefully preparing for the newest haunt to hit the entertainment scene....so much to do and so little time. Will keep you posted as we go. I have checked with my in-house film editor AKA Geoff Beck of Shutter Productions from Cleveland, Ohio to see if he is willing to assist with a DVD "Actor Training From Down Under" which will be a composite of all of our activities while in AUS. One can only wonder what we will be getting into...and for all those that know the real "Crazy Bob" that could mean or be a lot! Later......

Crazy Bob will be leaving the USA on Aug. 1 and traveling DOWN UNDER to Australia for 15 days to assist Jay Jones with his acting and character development for his debut mobile haunted attraction called: "HOLLYWOOD HORRORS". Crazy Bob has a MONSTER IMPOSSIBLE mission to complete. He has one day to teach a cast of pre-chosen Aussies to be HAUNTERTAINERS before the opening day of the event. He will be bringing NEMESIS with him to assist with the training and development of the AUSSIE HAUNTERTAINERS. We hope to bring you daily progress reports, pictures and more....!
